The Seattle Seahawks handed the San Francisco 49ers their first loss of the season on Monday night, coming away with a pivotal 27-24 overtime win that pulled the Seahawks to within a half-game of the 49ers for first place in the NFC West.

Afterward, Seattle linebacker Bobby Wagner was pumped about the team's defensive performance:

“Their defense was considered the best defense and we wanted to try to show otherwise,” said Wagner, according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times.

The Seahawks held the Niners to 302 yards of total offense, with San Francisco averaging just 3.9 yards per play. It wasn't a dominant outing for Seattle's defense. Still, it was one certainly good enough for recognition, especially considering that the Seahawks have not exactly been elite in the same category throughout the season.

Through Week 10, Seattle ranks just 24th in the NFL in yards allowed and 23rd in scoring defense. Outplaying one of the top defenses in the league — and on the road, no less — is a shining moment for this unit.

The Seahawks improved to 8-2 with the win and have now won three games in a row. Their schedule does not get any easier, however, as each of their next four games will come against clubs with winning records, and three of them are on the road.

Seattle will have a bye next week, but its gauntlet will begin on Nov. 24 when it heads east to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. The Seahawks will then host the Minnesota Vikings before consecutive road matchups with the Los Angeles Rams and Carolina Panthers.
