The NBA will lose another one of its legends.

Paul Pierce announced on The Players' Tribune Monday morning that he will retire after the 2016-17 NBA season.

Here's a video The Players' Tribune tweeted out of Pierce announcing the decision.

Pierce opens up saying:

“I’ve given this game all I’ve had, all my life. Just like any difficult decision that you’ve ever got to make in your life, I think you’ve really got to be at peace with yourself to make a decision like this. I realize that it’s time to move on from the game of basketball. The toughest decision I’ve ever had to make in my life, but this is it, my final season.”

Pierce signed a three-year, $10 million contract with the Los Angeles Clippers last season. Last year, he averaged single-digits for the first time in his career with just 6.1 points per game.

Pierce will always be most remembered for his days with the Boston Celtics in which he became one of the best ever to put on a Celtics uniform. He helped lead the franchise to an NBA title in 2008, its first since the 1985-86 season.

Pierce made 10 All-Star teams and has scored over 26,000 points in his career. His decision to eventually retire coincides with former teammate Kevin Garnett's news that he will retire before this season. We also saw the careers of Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan come to an end this summer.
