Britney Spears and Sam Asghari have settled their divorce. According to legal documents obtained by People, Spears and Asghari have agreed to follow the terms of their prenuptial agreement.
“The divorce was amicable and the prenup was not challenged,” a source tells PEOPLE. “Britney is continuing to flex her freedom and is moving on.”
According to a source per Us Weekly, the prenup states that Asghari will receive “$1 million per every two years” of their marriage, with a cap at $10 million after 15 years. Spears and Asghari were married for 14 months.
While the former couple has settled their divorce, they are still not legally single, TMZ reports. A judge will soon file papers to finalize the divorce.
Britney Spears and Sam Asghari Break Silence On Divorce
Asghari cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce filing back in August. A day later, Asghari broke his silence on their split via Instagram Story that they “decided to end our journey together.” He added: “We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. S—t happens. Asking for privacy seems [ridiculous] so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful.”
Britney Spears also commented on the divorce via Instagram on August 18.
“As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together. 6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I’m a little shocked but … I’m not here to explain why because it’s honestly nobody’s business!!!” she captioned an Instagram post. “But, I couldn’t take the pain anymore honestly !!! In some sort of telepathic way, I have been receiving so many messages that melt my heart from friends and I thank you!!!”
Asghari also spoke to People about what Spears meant to her and how she appreciated their time together.
“It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time. And people grow apart and people move on,”Asghari said. “I've always hated people leaving a certain relationship — and at some point they told each other they love each other and they sat at the same table and ate food [together] — so I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other. That's something I'm never going to do because I had nothing but an amazing experience and a great life, and that's always going to be part of my life, a chapter of my life.”
The singer and Asghari met in 2016 on the set of her “Slumber Party” music video and made their relationship official in 2017. The couple got married to Asghari on June 9, 2022. The pop star was previously married to Jason Alexander in January of 2004 but only for 55 hours. She then married Kevin Federline 10 months later in October 2004. They share two sons together: Jayden James Federline and Sean Preston Federline.
Spears has been romantically linked to Paul Richard Soliz since September 2023. Soliz is a contractor. Asghari on the other hand has not said whether he is dating anyone at this time.
