Melvin Gordon will be joining the Denver Broncos next season, giving him an opportunity to play his former team. While making an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Gordon expressed how much he is looking forward to facing the Los Angeles Chargers twice a year.
Early in free agency, Gordon inked a two-year, $16 million deal with the Broncos, joining Phillip Lindsay in Denver's backfield. Despite it being a questionable move on Denver's part, both sides seemed to believe it would be an ideal fit.
Near the beginning of his radio appearance, Gordon shared that playing the Broncos twice a year aided him in making the decision to sign them. Also, getting a chance to face the Chargers was also on his mind before signing.
Gordon began his career with the Chargers in 2015 as a first-round pick out of Wisconsin. After four seasons with Los Angeles, Gordon was longing to receive a multi-year extension from the team that drafted him. Therefore, he decided to hold out for a new deal last offseason.
On the other hand, the Chargers didn't show any interest in signing Gordon to a lucrative extension. Following a brief and futile holdout, Gordon returned to the Chargers in Week 4 of the 2019 season. The former first-round pick would finish this past season with 612 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
To make matters worse, instead of signing Gordon, Los Angeles chose to give an extension to Austin Ekeler. Even though Gordon hints that there aren't any hard feelings between him and the Chargers, his eagerness to play his former team as part of the AFC West rival Broncos would say otherwise.
