Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is gearing up for his second season atop the highest level while the up-and-coming signal-caller is notably gearing up for his first full season as an NFL signal-caller. Presumably because of his lack of time on the field as an NFL quarterback, Mayfield was recently ranked as the No. 14 overall signal-caller in the league by The Athletic.

With The Athletic placing Mayfield in the middle of the pack, at least one NFL coach with ties to the AFC North division believes that the soon to-be-second-year quarterback is near the top of the list in terms of mental fortitude.

“He will be a 1, if not this coming season, the season after,” one NFL coach with AFC North ties recently said, via The Athletic. “His mentality is like the 1s. He can handle his s—. He can direct the traffic. He can handle personalities. It is not too big for him. He doesn’t have to overcome anything in the intangible area to play. It is just a matter of the timing and the footwork and those things to catch up to what he already is mentally, which is great.”

It is also worth noting that Mayfield's placement at No. 14 overall still sits him in the second tier among current NFL signal-callers. The first tier is of course led by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, respectively. No arguing needed at the top of the heap.
