The Cleveland Browns are bringing a player onto their roster who can provide inside information for Monday night's game against the New York Jets. According to Ian Rapoport, Cleveland is signing running back Elijah McGuire.

The Browns are activating McGuire to their roster due to Dontrell Hilliard being ruled out with a concussion. However, the former Jets running back may be able to inform Freddie Kitchens on what New York plans to do offensively.

As many know, McGuire began his career with the Jets after the team selected him in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In his first two seasons in the NFL, the versatile rusher was sparingly used in New York's offense.

Furthermore, the third-year running back combined for 591 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Along with his rushing stats, McGuire showed his willingness to catch the ball; with 36 receptions for 370 yards in the past two seasons.

Over the course of training camp and the preseason, McGuire was competing for a roster spot in the Big Apple. Due to Le'Veon Bell, Bilal Powell, and Ty Montgomery, the Jets decided to release McGuire.

Following his release from the Jets, the Browns decided to sign McGuire to their practice squad for the 2019 season. Ahead of Monday night's game against his former team, McGuire has been elevated to the active roster to provide insurance at running back.

With McGuire joining the team, he may be asked to see some snaps in the offense behind Nick Chubb. To make room for the young running back, Cleveland also decided to place Drew Stanton on injured reserve.
