The Cleveland Browns plan on utilizing wide receiver Josh Gordon by giving him more targets moving forward. Browns head coach Hue Jackson said the team wanted to be cautious with Gordon's incorporation into the offense.

Gordon was away from the team for an extended period dealing with a child support dispute and mental health issues in the preseason, so the team preferred to ease him into things. Browns quarterback Tyrod Taylor is working on building chemistry with Gordon, via the Akron Beacon Journal.

“He’s a fast guy,” Taylor said. “I’m learning his speed each and every day so that we can be better at connecting, of course, on the deep ball because those plays spring open our offense and ultimately put points on the board.”

Jackson said that Gordon would be on a “pitch count” in Week 1, limiting him to around 20 offensive snaps. Gordon ended up being on 69 of the Brown's 89 offensive snaps but was only targeted three times in their 21-21 tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers. His lone reception was a 17-yard touchdown pass in the final two minutes of regulation to help send the game into overtime.

Taylor only connected on 15 of his 40 passing attempts for 197 yards against the Steelers. His only touchdown came on his late-game throw to Gordon. If the Browns want to maximize their offense's potential, they need to find a way to get the ball in Gordon's hands.

The team plans on trying to throw to Gordon early and often so he can get into a rhythm against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2. If he establishes himself as a threat, it'll make things that much easier for Jarvis Landry to make plays down the field.
