Injuries are beginning to mount up at the safety position for Bruce Arians and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As a result, Arians anticipates roster moves to be made soon to provide some depth at the position.

Arians said that the Buccaneers have five guys injured at safety but it seems as if he meant the secondary as a whole. As of right now, Justin Evans, D'Cota Dixon, and Orion Stewart are all nursing injuries during the preseason at the safety position.

Among those guys, Evans is expected to start at strong safety for the third straight season. Although, an issue with his heel has caused him to begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list. Evans has four interceptions and 124 combined tackles in his two seasons in Tampa Bay.

For Dixon and Stewart, both safeties have been placed on injured reserve since the beginning of August. Dixon's is undisclosed while Stewart is dealing with a knee injury that he suffered in the first practices of training camp. The Buccaneers signed Stewart earlier this offseason to compete at the safety position.

There aren't many safeties to choose from at this time of the year. If Arians is interested in bringing in proven veterans, then guys like Eric Berry and Mike Mitchell make sense for a young Bucs secondary.

For Berry, injuries have plagued the three-time All-Pro safety in the past two seasons. Berry spent nine seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs before being cut earlier this offseason.

On the other side of things, Mitchell played with the Indianapolis Colts in 2018. The veteran safety started in four games for Indianapolis. The Colts brought back Clayton Geathers and are expecting a breakout season from Malik Hooker, making Mitchell expendable.

Regardless of who they decide to sign, the Buccaneers will need to add some players to their secondary as they deal with a multitude of injuries in the preseason.
