The difficult year of 2020 was tough for many, including NBA stars like Jrue Holiday. It showed that the world is not a safe place, especially for the marginalized sectors of society. Police brutality and social inequality took center stage with the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many more that ultimately re-sparked the Black Lives Matter movement.

Holiday, who donated the remainder of his salary to charity last year, was one of the many members of the NBA community who took a stand and spearheaded the fight in their own way.

As an African-American living in the United States, police abuse is something the Milwaukee Bucks guard is well too familiar with. The former All-Star, who was still playing for the New Orleans Pelicans last year found out that he and his wife were having a son just a few days after the traumatic killing of Floyd. Naturally, Holiday said fear took over joy and excitement amid uncertain times (via ESPN).

“I remember when my wife first told me that we were having a son, and I'm in tears because right before that, it was the George Floyd incident, and I'm like, ‘Man, I'm bringing another black man into this world and I have to think about how I raise him around police officers.' Again, I have police officers among my family and friends, so I support them. But you just sometimes have those bad eggs.”

The 30-year-old Holiday joined a handful of NBA players to reflect and put out a strong message on social justice on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

On a day where the world honors the great civil rights movement leader, Jrue Holiday and the rest of the league are making sure the fight for equality is louder than ever.
