Sadly for the Boston Celtics in the 2019 NBA Playoffs, “The Truth” was not the answer. After shellacking the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 1 of the two teams’ second-round series, Paul Pierce confidently and calmly proclaimed in the postgame festivities on NBA TV that the series between the two teams was “over.

Of course, both fate and the presumptive MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo interviewed and the Bucks were able to reel off four straight convincing victories to oust the Celtics in five games – coldly ending Pierce’s prediction in its tracks.

The Bucks fans were quite spirited after the Game 5 victory on their home court, as they could be heard chanting “Paul Pierce sucks,” in the fourth quarter.

Perhaps the most striking part of this video is Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer completely oblivious to the chanting, and instead coaching up his hulking seven-foot three-point shooting machine Brook Lopez, who was one of the major additions to the team in free agency during the 2018 offseason.

Lopez had a tough game 5, as his three-pointers were simply not falling, but it didn’t matter one iota to the Bucks, who ran through the Celtics like wet tissue paper even without the exploits of Lopez.

Clearly, Pierce was letting his “green-tinted glasses” get the better of him as a longtime member of the Celtics and an NBA Champion, but he should think twice before claiming a series is over after Game 1 – no matter how things look in the moment.
