The Montreal Canadiens have started the season off 3-1-1- and defeated the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night, 3-1. David Savard made highlight play after highlight play, blocking five shots and registering the assist as he did everything in the victory. Unfortunately, the bad news came in for the Canadiens as Savard will now be out indefinitely due to an upper-body injury he suffered, per Elliotte Friedman.

‘Montreal announces David Savard — injured last night — is out indefinitely with an upper-body injury. Gustav Lindstrom up from AHL Laval on an emergency basis.'

The veteran has been a huge piece of the Canadiens team the past few seasons and has gotten off to a strong start, so this will be a tough blow for the team. In the game against the Sabres, he put his entire body on the line, at one point even losing his stick and then losing one of his blades in a wild sequence.

Savard looked to be in a bit of pain after this sequence, but fans took notice of his courageous effort despite losing both his stick and skate. In his absence, the Canadiens called up Gustav Lindstrom, who spent the past four seasons with the Detroit Red Wings.

The Canadiens already lost Kirby Dach to a season-ending injury, and Savard now joins Chris Wideman on the IR and they are dealing with Kaiden Guhle being banged up also, so it hasn't been a promising start on the injury front for this team.

The Canadiens face the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday at home.
