The Washington Capitals made some big moves on Wednesday, as the franchise massively improves the goalie position. After winning the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche, Darcy Kuemper is moving to Washington. Additionally, the front office brought in a strong backup, giving them the help they needed on defense.
According to Tarik El-Bashir, the Capitals signed Kuemper to a five-year $26.25 million deal. This is a massive acquisition for Washington, as they bring in one of the best goalies in the NHL. His championship experience will be crucial in the organization's hopes to win another Stanley Cup down the road.

Pierre LeBrun provides the details of Darcy Kuemper's contract. It looks like the Capitals are giving the star goalie $6 million in each of the first three years. After that, Kuemper's salary hit drops to $4.5 in year four, then to $3.75 in year five. So, it's likely Washington views him as the main starting option for at least the first three years of his deal.

Meanwhile, the front office also signed Charlie Lindgren on a three-year contract where he's averaging $1.1 million per season. With that, the Capitals have locked up their goalie position for the next several years. With how strong the offense has been in general, this is exactly what Washington needed to get back on track.

We'll see how it all plays out, but things are looking up for the Capitals. As long as the team continues to play at a high level we should see this franchise competing for a playoff spot next season.
