Arizona is officially adding a new quarterback. No, it isn't Kyler Murray. Instead, the Cardinals are signing former Packers and Seahawks quarterback Brett Hundley, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.

This one comes from out of left field, but the Cardinals will need a backup quarterback whether it's Murray or Josh Rosen under center next year. Schefter added that it'd be a one year deal for Hundley. Hundley used to have a bunch of supporters in league circles who thought he could develop into a starter, but it never materialized.

A fifth-round pick of the Packers back in 2015, there was a lot of buzz around Hundley following some strong preseason performances. It got to the point where Hundley reportedly had significant trade value, even though he was buried behind Aaron Rodgers. But then Rodgers got hurt during the 2017 season, and Hundley actually had to play.

Hundley started nine games for Green Bay that year and was one of the worst quarterbacks in the league. He threw 12 interceptions against just nine touchdowns and averaged less than six yards per pass attempt.

Hundley quickly fell out of favor with management and was shipped out to Seattle for a sixth-round pick last August. He spent the entire season holding Russell Wilson's clipboard, but never saw any game action. It's not clear what he signed for, but it was likely not much more than the league minimum.

It's probably not guaranteed either, and Hundley won't be assured of a roster spot. The Cardinals did just release Mike Glennon, which will make winning the backup job much easier for Hundley this offseason. The UCLA product will be looking to revitalize his once promising career in the desert.
