Jim Bob Cooter is currently interviewing for the offensive coordinator position that's still open with the Arizona Cardinals, according to a new report.

Cooter comes to the table with several years of coaching experience under his belt, with his most notable stint being with the Detroit Lions, where he stayed from 2015 until 2018.

In addition to his college career — both as a player, and later as a coach, for the University of Tennessee — he had coaching stints with the Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, and Denver Broncos.

Jim Bob Cooter originally got his start with the Detroit Lions under former head coach Jim Caldwell. When Matt Patricia took over, he kept Cooter on board until they mutually parted ways last year.

But Cooter is in steep contention with other viable coaches for the still-vacant OC position with the Cardinals.

Former Vikings OC John DeFilippo, former Falcons OC Steve Sarkisian, and former Giants head coach Ben McAdoo have all either interviewed or are in contention for the position.

Incoming Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury has confirmed that he's hired several offensive assistant positions, but has made clear, per his introductory press conference, that he will be the one to call most of the plays.

If Jim Bob Cooter does succeed in getting the position, he'll be heading up a coaching team that includes Sean Kugler as offensive line coach, Brian Natkin as Kugler’s assistant, and David Raih as wide receivers coach. Additionally, reports suggest that the team will be hiring James Saxon as the running back coach.
