When the Arizona Cardinals worked out a trade with the Houston Texans to get DeAndre Hopkins, the expectation was a new long term deal would be reached.

It's been almost four months since the trade was executed, but it's been pretty quiet on the trade front. Hopkins made it clear to the Texans that he wanted a new long-term deal, a big reason why they decided to make a trade to ship him out.

But despite the lack of contract talks thus far with Hopkins, the Cardinals are still expected to find a way to get a deal done, according to Howard Balzer of Sports Illustrated:

It’s no secret that Hopkins used the wedge of wanting a new deal to expedite his exit out of Houston. It’s also been made clear to SI.com that when general manager Steve Keim consummated the trade and president and chairman Michael Bidwill signed off on it, the team assured agent Todd France that Hopkins would be taken care of.

Hopkins still has three years left on the deal that is set to pay him $12.5, $13.5, and $13.915 million, but it's all non-guaranteed. The Cardinals could decide to release him at any time with no penalty, so it makes sense that Hopkins wants a little more financial stability.

Even though Hopkins wants a long-term deal, he hasn't held out. Hopkins has been present in all the team's offseason workouts and he also was apart of the private workouts with Kyler Murray in Dallas.

It's unclear at this point how close the two sides are to a long-term deal or if there have even been discussions, but it seems that it will still be getting done at some point.
