The Arizona Cardinals have acquired running back Kenyan Drake in a trade with the Miami Dolphins, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The Cardinals are sending a conditional 2020 draft pick to the Dolphins in exchange.

The move comes after Chase Edmonds suffered a hamstring injury during Arizona's loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The Cardinals have also been without No. 1 back David Johnson, who is battling an ankle issue and is also expected to be out for Week 9.

Drake has had a limited role this season in Miami, carrying the ball 47 times for 174 yards. He has also logged 22 catches for 174 yards.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was originally selected by the Dolphins in the third round (73rd pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He played in all 16 games during his rookie campaign but did not receive many touches, toting the ball 33 times for 179 yards and a couple of touchdowns. His role grew the following year, as he registered 644 yards and three scores on the ground while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. In addition, he caught 32 passes for 239 yards and a touchdown.

Drake then did not show much improvement in 2018, finishing with 535 yards while reaching the end zone four times as a rusher, posting 4.5 yards per attempt. He also snared 53 balls for 477 yards and five touchdowns.

With Mark Walton seeming to be on the rise in South Beach, the Dolphins decided to move Drake.

The Cardinals are 3-4-1 on the season and will take on the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night.
