As the Arizona Cardinals are inching closer to their upcoming Week 1 season opener against the Tennessee Titans, longtime wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is still a free agent.

The 11-time Pro Bowler has pondered before on possibly returning for what would be his 18th season in the NFL, but as he recently noted, he currently does not have an “urge” to play.

New Cardinals wide receiver A.J. Green does not necessarily believe that the NFL has seen the last of Fitzgerald. As he noted earlier this week, Green sees that Fitzgerald could very well change his mind and rejoin the Cardinals for this season.

“When he said he doesn’t have the urge right now, that means it’s still in the back of his head,” Green said. “That’s what I took from that. If Larry had said he was done, then I would have believed him. But when he said ‘right now,’ those were the key words. So, it’s still back there.”

Green signed with the Cardinals in the offseason on a one-year deal. Many presumed that when the former Cincinnati Bengals star agreed to join Arizona, it would create a wideout ‘Big 3' of Green, DeAndre Hopkins and Fitzgerald. But for now, Christian Kirk will be called upon to help replace Fitzgerald's on-field production.

Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury would welcome back Fitzgerald with open arms, as he recently mentioned that the “ball's in his court” over a possible return to Arizona.

If Fitzgerald does elect to re-sign with Arizona for this season, he would once again be on milestone watch. He is 118 receptions away from passing Jerry Rice for the most all-time receptions in NFL history and 10 receiving touchdowns away from moving up into fourth on the all-time receiving touchdowns list. At this stage in his career, it may take him two more seasons to achieve each of these two feats.
