Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson recently had very high praise for rookie running back Chase Edmonds.

Johnson has continued to assert himself as the top back in the Cardinals' offense, but he also understands the value of having someone like Edmonds is during the grind of the NFL season.

Edmonds was drafted by the team in the fourth round of this year's NFL draft, and he's compiled 39 carries for 138 yards and two touchdowns this season.

And Johnson does all he can to reinforce Edmonds' belief in his potential moving forward, according to Cardinals reporter Darren Urban.

“I just tell him he’s a great player and don’t let the fans make him think any less of himself,” Johnson said. “Everyone in the organization and who is part of the football team knows how good he is.”

Johnson hasn't had the type of year that most expected him to after missing the majority of last season due to injury, but that may be more of a product of the team's current situation more than anything.

Arizona has struggled to a 3-9 record, and despite the shift to new offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, it's been hard for the Cardinals to string together enough consistency to earn wins on a regular basis.

However, they did pick up a memorable one last week in knocking off the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, so perhaps that momentum will carry over into this week's game against the Detroit Lions.
