Since being taken with the 10th overall pick in this year's NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals, it has been a steady transition process for rookie quarterback Josh Rosen to adjusting to playing at the next level.

According to Peter King of NBC Sports, Rosen pinpointed that the complexity of the different defensive formations and schemes has been a huge part of the adjustment period that he had to go through in his first few months as an NFL quarterback.

“I think I see defenses a lot better than I did in college. Pre-snap moreso, because in college it’s like you had to acknowledge the front and coverage—just kind of take it in, snap the ball, then play. It’s like, ‘I think I got cover three, I get the snap and oh, it’s cover two. Well, gotta throw it somewhere.’ Now, I have to actually make checks and change plays according to fronts, linebackers, safeties. So instead of just seeing it and reacting live and playing, I have to diagnose it, and when you have to diagnose the defense before a play, it means you pretty much have to learn it. Because you can’t just stand up at the line and guess. Processing that information at the line has helped me do more. I think I see defenses a lot more clearly now, and I’m understanding matchups much better.

It is a much more thorough process for Rosen at the next level as there are various types of schemes and packages that he must get acquainted with to find success in the NFL. This is apart of the learning curve that many rookies struggle with that he has had to work his way through.

At the collegiate level, there is also isn't the same level of talent and complexity to the game planning that takes place in the NFL on a weekly basis. Beyond the physical traits, it also tests the mental fortitude and knowledge of the game to be a productive player, especially at the quarterback position.

The fact that he's noticing that in great detail off the bat in the preseason could bode well him in making a smooth transition at the next level that could see him prove that can be the long-term answer under center for the Cardinals.
