Team USA’s masterful 119-62 romp over China in their Olympic debut is exactly how the Americans envisioned it to be.

They were clicking on both ends and everyone checked out healthy after the final buzzer.

For Carmelo Anthony, it wasn’t just a perfect start for the team, but also a historic evening for himself. The New York Knicks forward became the first male in USA basketball history to play in four Olympics.

He started out in 2004 as a member of the much-maligned squad that finished with just, in Team USA standards, a Bronze medal. He was still very young during that time and, as such, he did not get in the favor of coach Larry Brown, who’s known to favor veterans over the young ones.

Anthony’s commitment paid off in 2008 as the “Redeem Team” brought back basketball glory to the United States. It takes a great amount of desire and effort out of someone like Carmelo Anthony to make himself available for duty whenever the country needed him.

Now, fans may very well be seeing the his final Olympic tournament as father time is slowly creeping up on him.

But despite having no NBA titles, as of yet, Carmelo Anthony has already left an extremely significant legacy as this does not only talk about a single franchise or city, it is for country.
