Already on a four-game losing streak, the task on hand for the Boston Celtics to end their skid on Wednesday against the L.A. Clippers became even tougher when it was announced that Al Horford and Marcus Smart will both not see action for coach Brad Stevens' squad on the night.

While the All-Star big man may be suffering a concussion, Smart’s injury is a bizarre one as he mysteriously lacerated his hand in the hotel where the Celtics were staying. Stevens admitted to reporters that he is still unsure how it happened and that the team is still in the process of determining just that.

“I don't know the whole story…we're learning more about that…”

Smart’s laceration is by no means a simple one, as he reportedly received stitches on it and will need to be observed for a couple of days first before getting cleared to play once again. His absence is a huge blow to the Celtics, as they rely heavily on his defense and timely outside shooting. He is averaging 10.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.3 steals in 30.3 minutes per game this season.

It remains to be seen when he'll be available to suit up again for the Celtics. In his absence, Terry Rozier is expected to see an uptick in his usage, with Jaylen Brown possibly seeing some run at the shooting guard spot as well. It's also interesting to find out what the team will uncover as the real cause for the injury Smart suffered on Wednesday in Los Angeles.
