Since he suffered the gruesome leg injury on opening night, Gordon Hayward has had surgery, and stayed at home during Boston Celtics games. However, that changed on Thursday night, as he made his first appearance inside TD Garden, and sat behind the team’s bench to support his teammates while they faced the Golden State Warriors.

The All-Star forward’s presence may have played a hand in inspiring the Celtics as they came out with the win on the night, and extended their winning streak to 14 games. Hayward took to his Twitter account after the match, to let his teammates know that he’s happy to watch them live, and see them further improve their record for the year so far.

Despite Kyrie Irving struggling to knock down his shots from the field, the Celtics showed a lot of teamwork, by distributing the shots well, which led to Jaylen Brown and Al Horford, among others, taking on the scoring load. Their win is also a strong statement to the rest of the competition, that they can find ways to prevail even if their best player is having an off-night.

Gordon Hayward is expected to miss the remainder of the season as he continues his rehabilitation. For what it’s worth though, his presence is a morale-booster for the Celtics. That said, it won’t come as a surprise if he’ll be seen more often sitting behind their bench during home games to give his support and still have the feeling of being part of the team.
