The Boston Celtics are headed to the Eastern Conference finals, thanks in large part to the hot hands of Grant Williams, who came out of nowhere and channeled his inner Ray Allen during Game 7 of their second-round matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks at TD Garden. Williams absolutely smoked the Bucks, repeatedly making them pay for giving him space to pull the trigger from behind the arc.

Williams finished the game with a game-high 27 points on 10/22 shooting from the field. The highlight, of course, was his seven threes on 18 attempts. The former Tennessee Volunteers averaged just 3.4 3-point attempts per game back in the regular season, and 5.5 in the playoffs, but his teammates would not have any of that in Game 7, as Jaylen Brown and the other Celtics players egging Williams to let it fly.

So when Williams balked on an open shot in the middle of the second quarter and tossed it to Jaylen Brown to figure it out, Brook Lopez got the stop, Giannis Antetokounmpo scored on the break, and Ime Udoka called timeout. That’s when Brown said enough was enough.

“He (freaked out) on me for not shooting. ‘Shoot it, shoot the first one. We know that’s a shot you can make and we won’t get mad at you for shooting it,’” Williams told The Athletic after Game 7. “So they were just like shoot it, we’re sick of you passing it up. I was like, ‘All right, cool.’ They gave me permission, so I tried letting them fly.”

Williams' sizzling shooting performance against the series-clincher versus the Bucks could affect the way the Miami Heat plan ahead of the Eastern Conference final, but it will also be a challenge for him to sustain that form. For one, the Heat are among the best teams in defending the long ball.

In any case, Williams just had a game Celtics fans will not soon forget.
