Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics scored 40 points in the fourth quarter of their game against the Miami Heat on Sunday. Despite the 15-point difference to close out the game, however, it wasn't enough for the Beantown team to win the game.

Sure enough, after the failed comeback bid that ended in a 130-124 Miami victory, Tatum didn't hold back and emphasized that the Celtics are not good enough to start slowly and just “switch on” to come back from huge deficits to win. While they have done it in the past, it is not like they can do it every game.

“I guess the answer is, it’s a choice. I don’t think that we’re necessarily good enough to just switch on, like all right let’s play,” the Celtics star admitted, per Alexandra Francisco of NESN.

“Certain games here and there, we’ve done that in a second half and have been able to win. Obviously today we dug ourselves too deep in a hole. Gave ourselves a chance, we’re always gonna do that. But you know, I know that we can do better, do more, especially in the beginning of the games. A little bit more toughness and play faster. Because when we get stops in the second half, play fast, play to our advantage we look pretty good. So we just got to start like that.”

Jayson Tatum played well for the Celtics and was efficient throughout, scoring 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting while also recording five rebounds, six assists, one steal and two blocks in 38 minutes of action. However, his heroics came a little too late after the Heat established a huge lead in the first half.

In the opening 24 minutes of the contest, the Heat scored 79 points and closed the half with a 26-point lead. While the Celtics dominated the second half and scored a total of 71 points, they still ended up on the losing end.

As Tatum highlighted, they have the talent. However, they need to compete right from the start if they want to give themselves a chance at winning games. Granted, the Celtics were without Jaylen Brown, but their second-half performance proved they can compete with anybody if they choose to do so.
