Kyrie Irving had a disastrous final season in Boston, and the writing was on the wall that his tenure with the Celtics was coming to an end. Prior to free agency, fans already assumed he would leave the Green Gang, as talks about him joining the Brooklyn Nets became louder and louder.

Irving, according to Jackie MacMullan of ESPN, apparently informed Celtics president Danny Ainge during his exit interview with the organization following their second-round exit in the 2019 playoffs that he was dead set on leaving Boston:

Irving, whose relationship with the Celtics had soured, said he told Danny Ainge in his exit interview that he was moving on. He had already decided where he was headed: back home to Brooklyn and all the possibilities it offered — not to the Knicks, which felt stagnant and stale.

“Come with me,” he implored Durant and Jordan.

This comes as no shocker as Irving didn't have the best of relationships with his teammates last year. The Celtics were clouded with season-long chemistry issues and multiple incidents of players calling each other out. Irving, in a lot of instances, was in the center of all the fiasco.

Now, both sides have moved on as Irving has already began balling out for his hometown squad. The Celtics, on the one hand, replaced Irving by signing All-Star guard Kemba Walker to a four-year max contract this past summer.

Surely, Irving's first game back in Boston will be must-watch TV. Mark your calendars for Nov. 27.
