NBA free agency has been absolutely nuts since it began Thursday evening. The Boston Celtics surprised many in NBA circles by trading for former Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon. In return, Boston sent back their 2023 first-round pick and a few rotational players.

News also surfaced Friday that when Danilo Gallinari gets released, that he will sign a one-year contract with Boston.

After the dust settled, Celtics point guard Marcus Smart took to Twitter to share his thoughts.

Smart tweeted “Man REALLY excited about the moves we made today!! Want to welcome @gallinari8888 and @MalcolmBrogdon7 to bean town… #banner18 is all that's on my mind!!”

The Celtics just missed out on adding their 18th championship in franchise history. They lost to the Golden State Warriors in six games in the NBA Finals.

During that series, it was made pretty clear that Boston needed a playmaker who can create his own shot as well as for others. Brogdon perfectly suits that role. The former Indiana Pacers guard averaged between 19 and 21 points per game the last two seasons, to go along with over five assists and five rebounds.

A projected starting lineup for Boston would be Brogdon and Smart as the guards, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum as the forwards and Robert Williams anchoring the paint. The bench suddenly looks stacked as well. Gallinari, Derrick White, Al Horford and Grant Williams help create a nine-man rotation that not many teams can match.

There is reason to believe the Celtics should be favored to get back to the NBA Finals next season. That is reflected by FanDuel, who has the Celtics as the odds-on favorite to win the NBA Championship next season.
