In the midst of an array of hoopla surrounding Paul Pierce's jersey retirement ceremony this past Sunday, Ray Allen made a heartfelt post on Instagram, detailing what was perhaps hard to bring to words on multiple occasions.

The all-time 3-point king spoke of how talk about that 2008 Celtics team had “berated, lambasted, and smeared” his name, as many had spoke ill of his friendship and loyalty as a teammate due to his decision to leave in the summer of 2012.

Allen went on to say how he cherished the memories with Pierce and Kevin Garnett, detailing their first days together.

“Paul Pierce is the first guy that welcomed Kevin and me with open arms into his atmosphere from day one and we never looked back,” wrote Allen, later clearing up what most thought as “beef” between him and Pierce.

“Paul and I have spoken about our time together as teammates- going to battle night after night knowing we could count on one another and we have also talked about my decision to leave during free agency- a choice I made for my family. Despite what you may have heard or read or what is rumored- there is nothing but love. Paul and I are more interested in building bridges than putting up walls.”

Allen concluded his message with a congratulatory salute to his former teammate, commemorating the five seasons they spent together and what they started by uniting forces in the summer of 2007.
