After the Boston Celtics traded for Malcolm Brogdon from the Indiana Pacers, one of the biggest questions for the Beantown team is who's going to be their starting point guard. After all, they still have Marcus Smart.

Smart started in all 71 games for the Celtics last season, and he proved to be a critical part of the team with his defense en route to the Defensive Player of the Year award and an NBA Finals berth. Surely, they won't mess with their lineup, right?

True enough, that could be the case, with Brogdon reportedly buying in to the Celtics' plan to have him come off the bench.

Per Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe:

A team source stressed Friday Marcus Smart remains the Celtics’ unquestioned starting point guard, and that the team was simply looking to add depth. Brogdon and Gallinari both had starring roles, but they’re willing to step back in order to pursue championships.

Malcolm Brogdon has been a starter for the majority of his career, so it is definitely great for the Celtics to see him make that sacrifice as they attempt to return to the NBA Finals in the 2022-23 season.

The former Rookie of the Year averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game in 2021-22, albeit in just 36 games. However, he remains a solid contributor and could be a starter in any other team.

The Celtics struggled with guard depth during the 2022 playoffs, with turnover being their biggest issue. With that, having another reliable option to create plays for the team is certainly a massive boost.
