Andy Reid will be taking part in his second Super Bowl as a head coach with the Kansas City Chiefs and he had a familiar face speak to the team. Just three days before Super Bowl 54, Reid brought in Donovan McNabb to speak at practice.

The week leading up to the Super Bowl requires the players of both teams to speak to the media. Therefore, having a former player talk to the team can be a way to remind the players of the magnitude of the game. After having McNabb appear in front of his team, Reid explained why he chose to do so.

“He’s been there and done it,” Reid told pool reporter Dan Pompei. “He’s been in the league, played a long time. It was good hearing from him.”

Of course, prior to coaching the Chiefs, Reid was with the Philadelphia Eagles; where he coached McNabb. The duo of McNabb and Reid were able to advance to the Super Bowl in 2004 against the New England Patriots.

In that game, McNabb completed 30 of his 51 attempts for 357 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. While the Eagles fell short in the Super Bowl, McNabb understands how hard it is to make it there.

This time around, Reid will have Patrick Mahomes under center as his starting quarterback. So far in the postseason, Mahomes has thrown for 615 yards, eight touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Despite having McNabb speak to the team, Reid is hoping that Mahomes can give him a different outcome in the Super Bowl on Sunday.
