The Kansas City Chiefs enjoyed a major statement win in Week 13. Going up against AFC West division foes, the Oakland Raiders, the Chiefs reminded everyone of exactly who they are.

Kansas City won the game 40-9, leaving no doubt.

However, they did leave some questions. In the game, running back LeSean McCoy had five carries for 10 yards and one touchdown. He also had three receptions (on three targets) for 20 more yards.

So after the game, the question was pretty simple. Why did McCoy have such a small workload?

According to Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk.com, head coach Andy Reid had an answer after the game.

“He did a nice job. He had productive runs today,” Reid said. “We’re not fooling anybody here, he’s not getting any younger, so it’s my responsibility to manage him as best I can, and I think I know him as well as anybody. So I’m going to do what I think is right on that. If it’s wrong then it’s my fault, so I’ll take that on my shoulders. I know he wants to play every play, and he loves to play.”

The reason is obvious if we're being honest here.

McCoy is not exactly a “young” running back anymore. Yes, he's having a fantastic season, but he's also being kept fresh. The Chiefs have refrained from using him too much, and it's worked out well for them so far.

Also, Kansas City won 40-9. It's not exactly like they needed him all that much in this game. Maybe if McCoy was killing it, but they weren't playing him much, and they lost. Then that could be a serious question.

As for now though, Reid is simply managing the load on McCoy. Keeping him fresh for when they seriously need him. Can you really blame the Chiefs? Reid knows the weapon he has in McCoy, why waste it in a blowout?
