The Kansas City Chiefs‘ Week 16 beatdown of the Pittsburgh Steelers didn't come without some trouble, as running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire suffered an injury to his collarbone during the win. Edwards-Helaire underwent x-rays on the ailing collarbone after the game and the results came back negative. The running back then underwent an MRI, according to Ian Rapoport, which revealed some encouraging news regarding his status for the rest of the regular season.

As Rapoport reports, the MRI to Edwards-Helaire's collarbone showed evidence of swelling but no structural damage. The Chiefs' running back should be able to return in short time, and is not expected to miss the remainder of the season.

His status for the crucial Week 17 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals remains up in the air however, and it wouldn't be all too surprising if the Chiefs elected to err on the side of caution with their young running back. Prior to exiting the Chiefs Week 16 matchup with the Steelers, Edwards-Helaire had recorded nine carries for 27 yards and a rushing touchdown.

While the Chiefs are a pass-first offense, the importance of the former LSU standout cannot be understated, and they'll be hoping that his stint on the sideline is brief.

At 11-4, the Chiefs have clinched their sixth-consecutive AFC West title and will look to be at full strength for their impending Super Bowl run. If that means playing a game with Edwards-Helaire on the sideline, then so be it, so long as the 22-year-old can get back in time for the playoffs.
