Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is entering just his third season in the NFL. Fortunately, it has not taken him long to decide Kansas City is where he wants to spend the rest of his career.

Mahomes is now one year closer to getting his lucrative contract extension.

His agent Leigh Steinberg said during an appearance on The Chiefs Zone podcast that Mahomes would like to stay in Kansas City his whole career.

“Quite frankly, he'd like to play his career there,” Steinberg said. “That's the intention and that's the plan. Look, he's got a terrific situation. Look at the targets he has to throw to. You can't do much better than Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. He's coached by Andy Reid, who he has a close relationship with. I don't think it's entered his mind that he'd play anywhere else but that. And the other thing about it is that he's just in this moment and totally focused on trying to get the team to the Super Bowl. So, we're not even giving a moment's thought about the future because he's in a great place. He's having a wonderful time. The intention is to play his career there.”

This is certainly an encouraging sign for the Chiefs. It is also rather understandable on Mahomes' part. The Chiefs made quite the investment to make him their franchise quarterback.

They have done even more to make sure he is developing in the right system under head coach Andy Reid and surrounded by some of the most explosive weapons in the league.

There is no question that Mahomes is likely set to become one of the NFL's highest-paid quarterbacks when the time comes. He has already managed to earn MVP honors while leading his team to the AFC Conference Championship in his first full season as a starter.

The onus will be on the Chiefs' front office to make sure Mahomes is paid his worth while continuing to surround him with a stellar supporting cast moving forward.
