As a kid, Patrick Mahomes grew up playing the sport of baseball because of the influence of his father, Pat Mahomes Sr., who was a professional baseball player himself. The elder Mahomes played in the MLB from 1992-2003, bouncing off teams namely the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
After capturing the Super Bowl LIV and the championship game MVP against the San Francisco 49ers in Miami, Patrick Mahomes was just getting started. The Chiefs star also inked a record-breaking 10-year deal with the team worth up to $503 million dollars making it the largest contract in sports history. The two-time Pro Bowler will be in Kansas City through the 2031 season.
At only 24-years old, he has become the youngest owner in sports history. The best way for Mahomes to cap a productive year is for the Kansas City Chiefs to successfully defend their Super Bowl LIV crown against the rest of the league.
With teams reloading during the offseason and amidst playing in an ongoing pandemic, repeating the feat will be much harder than expected. The Chiefs will square off against the Houston Texans on September 10 to open the 2020 football proceedings.
