The defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs were trailing a rookie quarterback on Sunday, but Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill are fighting back.

Kansas City trailed the Los Angeles Chargers 17-9 with under 13 minutes to go in the fourth quarter when Mahomes found star receiver Tyreek Hill for a 54-yard touchdown strike.

The Chiefs subsequently tied the game at 17-apiece after Mahomes found Sammy Watkins for the two-point conversion.

Chiefs-Chargers has taken a series of strange twists and turns.

Tyrod Taylor was supposed to start for the Chargers, but he gave way to rookie Justin Herbert after suffering an apparent chest injury prior to the start of the game against the Chiefs.

Herbert proceeded to lead L.A. on a scoring drive in his first possession under center, even finding the end zone himself after a four-yard scamper.

However, the Chiefs–as they so often do–have clawed back into the game, thanks in part to the Mahomes-Hill connection.
