Newly-acquired L.A. Clippers center Willie Reed has been arrested early Sunday morning stemming from charges of domestic battery. He was sent to jail in Miami-Dade County, and records stated that he was still inside until 7:30 a.m., according to a report made by David Ovalle of the Miami Herald.

“Former Miami Heat backup center Willie Reed was jailed early Sunday on a domestic-violence charge.”

“Miami-Dade jail records show Reed, 27, who signed with the Los Angeles Clippers last month, was still in jail as on 7:30 a.m. He was charged with misdemeanor battery.”

“Details about the alleged crime were not immediately available. He was arrested in downtown Miami at the Marquis condo, 1100 Biscayne Blvd.”

This is the first time the former Saint Louis standout was arrested for misdemeanor charges, and could possibly face some hours of probation, a hefty fine, and even jail time if proven guilty.

This is definitely not good news for the Clippers, as they think very highly of Reed, and feel that they got one of the most underrated backup centers in the league today on the veteran's minimum. He is expected to play a crucial role for them off the bench next season, and provide them with quality minutes whenever DeAndre Jordan is taking a breather.

Reed spent last season with the Miami Heat, where he appeared in 71 total games for them. He emerged as more than just serviceable big man during his time in South Beach, and averaged 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per game. His fans, as well as the Clippers, are hopeful that this will not serve as a distraction to him, especially with Reed having the opportunity to prove his worth next season, and could be in line for a bigger contract next summer, should he play solid basketball again.
