Relationships played a role in the Indianapolis Colts acquiring quarterback Carson Wentz from the Philadelphia Eagles. Veteran offensive lineman and former Wentz teammate Jason Peters believes those relationships will help Wentz rediscover past success.

Peters said during an interview with SiriusXM radio he expects Colts head coach Frank Reich–who was Wentz's quarterback coach for the first couple seasons of his career–to get the most out of the former No. 2 pick:

“One thing I do know about Frank, he’s gonna put Carson in the best position,” Peters said, via Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. “He’s not just going to let [Wentz] just go out there [and] have bad mechanics, or just go out there and throw bad balls. He’s going to put him in the best spots. He’s going to correct him when he’s wrong, and vice versa. They’re going to communicate with each other and all that good stuff.

“So I think Frank’s going to bring the best out of Carson with the Colts, because I’ve seen it when we were on the Super Bowl run. They were great tougher and that’s a good fir for Carson, I think. He’s going to get back to his MVP caliber of play.”

Wentz made massive leaps under Reich in his sophomore season in 2017.

The Raleigh native went 11-2 in 13 starts, throwing for close to 3,300 yards and 33 touchdowns while also leading the NFL with a 78.5 total quarterback rating. He was an MVP candidate before suffering a season-ending knee injury that prevented him from playing during Philly's Super Bowl run.

Wentz should also have the benefit of playing behind one of the best offensive lines in football, with a balanced Colts run game and some talented players in the receiving corps. But Peters feels his relationship with Reich will be at the heart of him getting back to MVP form.
