The Washington Commanders suddenly feel bullish on their future after the drafting of Jayden Daniels at number two in the 2024 NFL Draft this past April and plenty of other talented young players in the pipeline. New head coach Dan Quinn is another reason for optimism, along with camaraderie building within the team. One such example came recently when Commanders punter Tress Way was  given the opportunity to help out Daniels in regards to a jersey related situation.

The Way-Daniels news came amid three predictions for the former LSU Tiger's rookie season. Daniels himself has set the bar extremely high, evoking the name of CJ Stroud in regards to his 2024-2025 predictions.

Daniels is expected to succeed in his first season, which will include the former Tigers QB in a #5 jersey, the same number he wore in Baton Rouge.

Commanders Punter Makes Deal With Daniels

Commanders punter Tress Way decided to give up his #5 jersey to Daniels and made a deal in the process. According to Adam Schefter on Twitter, Way and his family will receive tickets to an Oklahoma vs. LSU game after his playing days are over, courtesy of the former number two pick.

Way called the gesture “a very small part of what I can do.” He is a former OU Sooners punter now playing in D.C. for coach Dan Quinn's team alongside Daniels.

Way averaged 46 yards per punt last season on more than 70 punts total, and had a long of 66 yards.

Daniels' Dual Threat Future With Commanders

Daniels and the Commanders suddenly have a bright future after one of the most exciting drafts in the league. Daniels won the Heisman Trophy last season, putting up 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns against just four interceptions while completing over 72 percent of his passes. He will have to succeed in Washington without the services of Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr., both of whom were picked in the first round and played wide receiver at LSU.

The Commanders' defense could be much improved with the additions of Mike Sainristil and Jer'Zahn Newton in the second round of the NFL Draft. Mike Sainristil sealed the national title game vs. Washington with a late interception and is considered to be a future star at the nickelback position. Newton's versatility and skill vs. both the run and the pass should help the Commanders from day one at the defensive tackle position out of Illinois.

The Commanders also added Ben Sinnott, a strong and athletic tight end out of Kansas State, with another second round pick in the draft, giving the team plenty of hope for a stellar young core of players who can grow up together around Daniels and the rest of the Washington team.
