Jason Witten broke news recently by unretiring and deciding to rejoin the Dallas Cowboys this season. Plenty of people had jokes and comments to the situation—including Byron Jones.

Jones took to Twitter to joke about why Witten decided to end his retirement from football.

The last time Witten suited up in a Cowboys uniform, Jones was playing at the safety position. The former safety made the switch in 2018, where he thrived in the Cowboys defense.

Jones started in all 16 games, where he had 67 tackles and 14 pass deflections. He didn't have any interceptions but ranked 12th among cornerbacks according to Pro Football Focus.

For Witten, he leaves the Monday Night Football booth after just one season. Most people believe that Witten's days were numbered in the booth regardless.

Witten joins a Cowboys roster that lacks a go-to-guy at the tight end position. It remains to be seen if Witten has anything left in the tank though—especially after being retired in 2018.

Another issue is that Witten is 36 years old but he was a very durable player in his career. The former All-Pro tight end started in 176 straight games from 2007-2017.

The Cowboys locker room also lacks leadership—which Witten immediately brings. This Cowboys roster is young all-around and could use someone like Witten to provide experience.

Does someone like Witten put the Cowboys in contention? Likely not, but he does improve the team in more ways than just production on the field.

Although Jones stated that Witten came back because he is playing cornerback now, I wouldn't be surprised if we see the two get a shot at each other in training camp.
