The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to a five-year deal worth $105 million with their star defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, according to ESPN.

Unfortunately for the Lawrence and the Cowboys, he will have to undergo shoulder surgery that will keep him out until training camp. He has been dealing with a torn labrum for the past two years and undergoing surgery will require a three to four month recovery period.

Even playing at less than 100% the past two seasons, he's been one of the top pass rushers in the NFL. He's started 32 of 33 games, making 25 sacks and forcing six fumbles.

He was the first Cowboy since DeMarcus Ware to post back-to-back double-digit sack seasons. He was also ranked as the ninth-best edge rusher by Pro Football Focus in 2018. He generates pressure consistently and has also been equally effective at stopping the run.

His leadership has been essential to the revitalization of the Cowboys' defense and a big reason why they made the playoffs last year. He's the lifeblood of that defense and the Cowboys made sure to sign him to a long-term deal despite the concerns with his health. But for a player of his caliber, he is definitely worth every penny of that long-term deal.

Despite the surgery, he is expected to make a full recovery by the end of the preseason. Him starting in week one of the regular season is a real possibility. If the injury couldn't hold him back from playing the past two years, he should be ready to go in 2019.
