DallasCowboys.com columnist Jeff Sullivan made headlines recently when he tweeted that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys were set to hand head coach Jason Garrett a contract extension soon.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones responded to that rumor when he was asked about a potential Garrett extension during his Tuesday morning radio appearance.

“I don't know where Jeff is getting his information,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan's Shan and RJ show [KRLD-FM] (per Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News). “He's pulling one out of the air there as far as any knowledge. My response should not in any way indicate that I'm thinking about it or whether it's going to be there, it's just not something that I would have visited with anybody about, least of all Jeff.

“I happen to know that I've never spoken to another soul about that as far as that is concerned.”

Garrett is still signed with the Cowboys through the 2019 season after inking a five-year, $30 million extension in 2015.

It’s interesting to note upon reading that quote that Jones didn’t seem to outright say that he wasn’t considering handing Garrett an extension; he merely questioned Sullivan’s source of the information.

Seeing as how Garrett has stayed on for as long as he has in Dallas despite mediocre results, it wouldn’t be a complete shock if he did still get another deal.

Things could still change depending on how the Cowboys do for the rest of the season. Until then, everyone will just have to wait and see if Garrett does get to stay on as Cowboys head coach.
