Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball had an unceremonious welcome to the NBA courtesy of Patrick Beverley. The L.A. Clippers guard roughed up the rookie, who struggled to get going and ended up with a three-point, 1-of-6 shooting night on his debut.

Ball bounced back very well with a near-triple-double against the Phoenix Suns, but Toronto Raptors point guard Delon Wright warns Ball that he will have a big target on his back all year long.

According to Josh Lewenberg of TSN, Wright says other players read the hype about Ball on social media, and they will come after him when they face off with the highly-touted rookie.

It’s the unfortunate reality that because Lonzo Ball plays for the Lakers as the No. 2 pick and has a boisterous father that builds him up so much, others players will be eager to cut him down to size. It’ll just be something he’ll have to get used to if he wants to become a true star in this league.

But as Ball showed against the Suns, he certainly has the talent to justify the hype. If he can successfully stand up to the best other players have to offer, he’ll eventually earn his peers' respect moving forward.
