The rumblings of Dennis Smith Jr. as a potential dark horse candidate for Rookie of the Year have been coming to light during this year's Summer League, but never more evident than after a vicious dunk attempt by the North Carolina State product, almost ending forward Luis Montero with his high-rising antics.

Smith carved up space with a quick crossover, getting past Justin Jackson and quickly leapt toward the rim, coming inches shy from making Montero's Summer League funeral with the right-handed missed spike.

The 6-foot-3 rookie has drawn comparisons to Steve Francis, another talent at 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds with an innate ability to score the ball and incredibly athletic.

He showed off his 48-inch vertical leap during warmups as well.
