Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy is rehabbing from an oblique injury, and things aren't going as well as he would like. Muncy says he's not progressing as quickly as he would like from his ailment.

“It's been pretty rough,” Muncy said. The third baseman made the comments on the talk show Foul Territory.

Dodgers fans are sad to hear this news. Muncy has been a vital part of the Los Angeles infield for a good while now. This season, he is hitting .223, with nine home runs and 28 runs batted in. Muncy last appeared for the team in a game on May 15 against the San Francisco Giants.

“We're hanging in there, being hurt is probably the worst thing ever,” Muncy added in his comments on the program. He also said that he has had to do a lot of waiting while his oblique heals naturally. Enrique Hernandez has been mostly handling the third base duties with Muncy out injured.

Muncy has played for the Dodgers since the 2018 season. He has been a bit inconsistent at the plate, with his best season hitting way back in 2018. He finished that year with a .263 batting average. In 2023, the third baseman batted in more than 100 runs for the first time in his MLB career, but he also had a career-high in strikeouts. He whiffed a whopping 153 times in 482 total at-bats for Los Angeles.

The infielder has twice been named an All-Star during his tenure with the Dodgers. He earned that selection in the 2019 and 2021 seasons. He also played for the Oakland Athletics, before his time with L.A. He helped Los Angeles win a World Series during the 2020 season.

The Dodgers' season

Los Angeles has been battling through the Muncy injury. The Dodgers are sitting at the top of the National League West standings, with a 41-26 record. The team is just 6-4 in their last ten games, but holds an impressive 7.5 game lead in the division. The next team behind them is the San Diego Padres.

While it is uncertain when Muncy will rejoin the lineup, the third baseman has been taking dry swings. Dodgers fans are glad to hear that news, but anxiously await the return of their beloved third baseman. Muncy brings so much more than hitting to the club. He also brings a sense of veteran leadership, and stellar defense from his infield position. The Dodgers are under a great deal of pressure to win a World Series this year, after spending more than a billion dollars on players during the offseason.

The Dodgers are in action again without Muncy on Tuesday, when the team hosts the Texas Rangers. The Rangers enter the game with a 31-34 record. The first pitch is scheduled for 10:10 Eastern.
