Wide receiver Danny Amendola was the Miami Dolphins’ marquee signing in an otherwise quiet free agency period this offseason. Amendola, who came over from the New England Patriots, is expected to be the primary replacement for the departed Jarvis Landry, who has been the team’s top receiver for the past few years.

However, Amendola's addition is already paying dividends for the Dolphins even before catching a single pass. According to Dolphins coach Adam Gase, the veteran receiver is proving to be a great example for the rest of the team due to his excellent work ethic.

“It’s one of those values that I don’t think you can put a price on,” Gase said per Michael David Smith of PFT. “He’s been great in our locker room. I think the guys watch him work on the field and in the weight room and they understand why he’s played as long as he has, why he’s had success in big situations. … Any time you can get a guy who can not only produce for you but can be a great example for other guys in your locker room, he’s making other guys better,” Gase said. “He makes 24 other offensive guys better if they watch him work.”

Amendola spent the past five years with the Patriots, so he obviously knows what it’s like to be in a winning environment and what type of effort it takes to succeed in such an environment. It’s only been a couple of months, but it speaks to his level of professionalism that he’s already rubbing off on his teammates in such a short amount of time.

It will take a lot more time and work for the Dolphins to reach the Patriots’ level of excellence. But at least Amendola has provided the template for what’s needed in order to be great, and hopefully, it can help cultivate a culture of success similar to what they have in Foxborough.
