The three-peat dream is no more. Fans will see a new team take the Dota 2 crown at The International (TI) 2021, with back-to-back defending champions OG crashing out of TI10 today. OG supporters, meanwhile, will have to come to terms with their team's dissatisfying finish this year.

As the biggest and most prestigious event on the Dota 2 Major Championship Circuit, TI10 marked a decade of spirited competition and intense rivalries. It would have been nothing short of a legacy if OG had become three-time titleholders during this historical year.

The European powerhouse had already accomplished a rare feat by becoming the only team to have won The International twice—and in consecutive years at that. A three-peat would not only have been icing on the cake, but would have further cemented OG's dominance in the Dota 2 pro scene.

Alas, giants bleed too. OG had a relatively comfortable group stage showing, placing third in Group A with a 10-6 record. This slotted them right into the TI10 Upper Bracket Quarterfinals. Right away, however, OG's playoffs run started off rough, succumbing 0-2 to Team Secret.

After dropping to the lower brackets, the team immediately bounced back, winning 2-0 over Quincy Crew. But the joy was short-lived. In the TI10's LB round 3, Team Spirit dealt the death blow to the defending Dota 2 champions, the 0-2 loss putting a halt to OG's three-peat hopes.

The LB rounds continue today as teams inch ever closer to the coveted The International trophy. In Saturday's UB Finals, Team Secret will battle it out with PSG.LGD to clinch the first spot in the Grand Finals. OG, meanwhile, will have to regroup and hope to show up stronger for the next season.
