Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles scored a touchdown in the first quarter of his team's game against the Houston Texans on Sunday afternoon and proceeded to hand the football to a rather well-known MLB superstar:

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout grew up in southern New Jersey, which is Eagles territory.

Pretty cool crossover between sports here.

For Sproles, it was just his second touchdown of the season, both coming in the form of receiving scores.

The 35-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Kansas State University, was originally selected by the San Diego Chargers in the fourth round (130th pick overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft.

Sproles spent the first five years of his career with the Chargers and did a little bit of everything, running the ball, catching passes out of the backfield and returning kicks.

He then made his way to the New Orleans Saints, where he developed into more of a receiving threat under quarterback Drew Brees. After three seasons with the Saints, Sproles landed with the Eagles, where he made Pro Bowls in each of his first three years with the team.

Sproles' production has tailed off considerably over the last two years, however.

Philadelphia came into Sunday's action with a record of 7-7 and very slim playoff hopes. The Eagles have won three of their last four games to keep their NFC East hopes alive.

After taking on the Texans this week, Philly will head on the road to take on the Washington Redskins in their final game of the season.
