Real Madrid are having their best season after losing Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018. They won their 35th La Liga title and surprised the world by going into their 17th Champions League final.

Still, this team is in need of some new players. There will be a giant crop of veterans that leave before next season, and not all rotational pieces are likely to stay. Due to these reasons, we can expect some activity from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Let's look at the three moves Real Madrid must make in the 2022 summer transfer window.

Moves Real Madrid need to make in 2022 summer

Get attacking reinforcements

Real Madrid has done most of their damage this year through a fierce offensive attack. Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr, have been amazing, both scoring over 20 goals this season in all competitions. Vinicius has been great in his own regard, but even more impressive has been the career season enjoyed by Benzema, going for his first Ballon d'Or at the age of 34.

However, he will be 35 midway through next season and regardless of his current magic, Benzema is likely to drop off. Unfortunately for Real Madrid, both Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz are not up to their standards and cannot be relied on to be Benzema's direct replacement.

Thus, Real Madrid should look for a striker that will be replacing Benzema in the next few seasons. Everyone will likely say that Kylian Mbappe is the way to go (more on him soon), but he is more of a winger than a striker.

A good option to look for would be Raul de Tomas, a former Real Madrid youth product and current striker for Espanyol. De Tomas is currently 27, right in the thick of his physical prime. For Espanyol, De Tomas scored 43 league goals in 84 appearances, including 16 this year, which puts him as the fourth-most prolific striker in La Liga this season. He would come relatively cheap, he is proven in Spain and he is a kid that grew up in Real Madrid.

Thus, Raul de Tomas is the perfect rotational striker that Real Madrid should go after this summer.

Get a defensive midfielder

The current starting Real Madrid midfield of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro is legendary. They won three Champions League titles playing together and will be gunning for another on May 28th. Yet, they are also getting on in terms of age. Modric is 36, Kroos 32 and Casemiro is 30, so it's incumbent on Real Madrid to look to the future after this season.

Last summer, Real Madrid brought in Eduardo Camavinga, who has impressed while on the pitch this season. There is also Federico Valverde, an Uruguayan midfielder who is set to be the cornerstone of a future Real Madrid midfield. Casemiro still has a few good years of football in him, but this summer is the time to bring in a replacement to get him accustomed to how things operate at Real Madrid.

There is an obvious candidate, and it is Aurélien Tchouaméni from Monaco. The French defensive midfielder is having a great year at Monaco and reports indicate that Real Madrid have kept their eye on the youngster for a long time. Given his age of 22, he is the perfect addition to this midfield, as Tchouameni would be developing alongside the veteran guidance of Casemiro and likely would replace him in a few years.

There are also other options, like youth product Antonio Blanco, but knowing Real Madrid, they always seem to prefer making a splash in the transfer market instead of promoting from in-house.

Get Kylian Mbappe

Mbappe needs his own section in any discussion about Real Madrid transfer moves.

He is not only an attacking player that could shore up the club's aging front line, but a transformational player that simply needs to be in Real Madrid colors come next season. Cristiano Ronaldo was Real Madrid's marquee player for nearly a decade, and Benzema has taken that mantle this season. He is not nearly as marketable as his predecessor, though, let alone Mbappe—a major reason why the young Frenchman needs to be brought to the Bernabeu this coming summer.

Mbappe is the perfect prototype of a Real Madrid player. He is young, flashy, effective looks beyond ready to bring about the next decade of greatness to the permanently hungry Real Madrid fans. Additionally, he is a huge fan of the club and even pushed for a transfer last summer, but PSG decided against it. Now, he is a free agent and while there are still rumblings of a potential extension with the French club, most football fans believe Mbappe is going to be a Real Madrid player next season.

This roster has been successful in its own right, but bringing Mbappe on will mean that Real Madrid are a real force to be reckoned with for the foreseeable future.
