It has been a tough two-year spell for Juventus. Winning nine titles in a row felt amazing for Juve, but now they finished fourth in Serie A in back-to-back campaigns. Additionally, it is also two years in a row where Juventus fell in the Round of 16 in the Champions League. After these two disappointments, there must be changes in Turin. Transfers that are coming in will change things, no doubt, but there also need to be changes in the roster in terms of players that simply need to leave. Here are three players Juventus must move on from this summer.
Players Juventus must move on from this summer
Moise Kean
When Cristiano Ronaldo left the team last summer, Juventus were aware that they need changes in the attacking part of their roster. Unfortunately for them, they went for Moise Kean. Kean was just coming off a season in which he scored 13 league goals for PSG, but that was by far his best season in professional football. His record generally speaking has been beyond underwhelming. Thus, it was more believable that the PSG season, with a goal every two games, was an exception, rather than the rule. Still, Juventus loaned him for two years, but they need to look at the first year and do everything to get rid of him, simply because he is not needed for what Juventus should be doing.
Firstly, under Max Allegri, Juventus never play with two strikers. With the addition of Dusan Vlahovic, who has been amazing, and the fact that Juventus still have Alvaro Morata, Kean is the odd man out. Now, the place of the third striker could go to a youngster that has some potential, or a veteran signing that will be available should there be any injuries. Kean is not good enough for what Juventus wants as an organization, so it would be smart to renegotiate the terms of his loan agreement with Everton. There is every chance that Kean is better next season if he does end up staying, but the risk of missing out on some good young striker this summer is too great for Kean to be given another chance.
Arthur
Article Continues BelowThe swap of Arthur Melo and Miralem Pjanić might end up being one of the most underwhelming swaps in football history. Both of these players are great in their own right, but both have had so many issues with their new clubs. Pjanić and Barcelona are a completely different story, but Arthur and Juventus is a story that needs to be ended this season. After disbanding their legendary midfield of Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba, Arturo Vidal, and Claudio Marchisio, Juventus have mightly struggled with midfielders but slowly weeded out their deadweight. Rodrigo Bentancur was sent to Tottenham and now it is time to get rid of Arthur. It was a good attempt, but he is simply not up to the level that Juventus want to be at.
One more major reason why Arthur needs to go is that, according to various reports, Paul Pogba could be back in Juventus colors next season. They are different players, granted, but only one of them can really remain when we consider the fact that Juventus already has their midfielders in place. Denis Zakaria, Manuel Locatelli, Wenston McKennie, Adrien Rabiot, and potentially Paul Pogba are a great group of midfielders, and if Arthur is added to the mix, it is too much for a squad that only plays three in the middle at best. As said, it was a good attempt for both sides and a positive note is that it ended better than the Aaron Ramsey experiment, but it is time to move on for both sides.
Mattia De Sciglio
Many around Juventus still wonder how this player is able to be part of the Juve squad. Without any disrespect to the Italian fullback, he has never had the quality to be part of a big club with big ambitions. De Sciglio is a solid backup option for a club that plays in the Europa League, but Juventus are a side with Champions League aspirations. De Sciglio played 29 games for them this season and while he is a backup and only played as much because there were injury issues, he just needs to leave the club this summer.
Selling De Sciglio would open up opportunities for Juventus to sign a young, promising fullback that would be there for the future. They already have one in Luca Pellegrini, who featured for the club 21 times this year. However, he is on the left, and on the right there is a lack of options for Juventus. This season and the fact that De Sciglio played 29 games must highlight the fact that they need some serious reinforcements on the defensive side of the field. Thus, their second priority after Moise Kean should be getting rid of De Sciglio.
