Spain is through to yet another EuroBasket semifinal after knocking off Germany, 84-72, in the quarterfinals of EuroBasket 2017. Memphis Grizzlies big man Marc Gasol’s monster performance with a team-high 28 points and 10 rebounds was a major factor in the Spaniards' win over the Germans.

After a closely-contested first half which saw Spain leading by only one point, the younger Gasol completely took over in the third quarter. He scored 18 of his 28 points and hit three of his four triples in the third frame. Spain outscored Germany 31-20 in that third period, which proved to be the difference in the game.

The performance was far and away Gasol’s best in this year’s EuroBasket as he had been relatively subdued in the tournament. He had not scored more than 11 points and grabbed more than eight rebounds in his previous six games. He had also hit just one three-pointer in six attempts.

Spain now moves on to face Slovenia in the semifinal stage after the Slovenians knocked off Kristaps Porzingis’ Latvia in their quarterfinal matchup.
