Genshin Impact’s 2.2 Livestream has presented us with a myriad of upcoming events. In this article, we’re focusing on one of the more interesting ones to date, Shadow of the Ancients. This event lets players conduct a dangerous scientific experiment with the help of a Sumerian scholar, Hosseini. The subject of this investigation is a mysterious Ruin Grader, whose regenerative abilities are nothing short of tremendous. Our goal is to discover a method to thwart this monster’s regenerative capabilities, and defeat it in combat at the final stage.
This mechanical monster, called the Anomalous Model Ruin Grader, is presumably quite dangerous, due to its enormous self-healing making itself almost unkillable. Because of this, Hosseini is leading our team of adventurers, to first research the methods of disabling the monster’s healing. This leads to the first part of Shadow of the Ancients, the Investigative Surveys.
In Investigative Surveys, players will need to explore certain areas in Teyvat, in search of Components vital in repairing important ancient devices, called Pursina’s Spikes. These Spikes are the keys to disabling the Ruin Grader’s healing abilities, and finding them requires the use of Prospectors. Players will be given the Ayesha’s Chaos Prospector, which is a device that can locate components in specific areas. When used in the designated areas, these Prospectors point toward the direction of the components, and players can place up to three Prospectors at a time. Once a component is within close proximity of a Prospector, the exact location of the component is revealed, which the player can then retrieve.
Article Continues BelowThe next step of this research is Data Sampling. After finding enough components to repair Pursina’s Spikes, players will still need to test them, to ensure that they work properly before the actual fight. In Data Sampling, players are required to fully charge the Spikes, while defending them from nearby monsters’ attacks. Attacking the Spikes with Electro damage will charge it, while attacks from other monsters will deplete some of the charge. Letting the Spike’s charge reach zero means failure, and the player will need to restart the challenge.
The last and final step of Shadow of the Ancients is Live Testing. With things all set and ready, players can now proceed to defeat this Ruin Grader, but with the help of Pursina’s Spikes. The challenge starts with the Ruin Grader in its inactive state, and players will need to charge all three Spikes before the time limit. Once fully charged, the players can proceed to defeat the monster without worrying about its regenerative abilities. However, once it's defeated before all Spikes are charged, the Ruin Grader will become active, and start healing tremendously while fighting the player.
This can be a very tough fight for the unprepared or uninformed player, but the Ruin Grader is not invincible–it just heals a lot. It’s possible that with enough DPS, the monster can be defeated without charging any Spike at all, though the truth remains to be seen when Shadow of the Ancients goes live.
